Battles for Political Leadership in South Africa

When the African National Congress had its leadership battle in the run up to their 52nd national conference a few years ago, it was not clear why those who wanted Mbeki wanted him; over Zuma. It was not clear why those who wanted Zuma wanted him; over anybody else. Now that the Congress of the People is engaged in a similar battle, in the run up to their 2nd national conference, it seems the same questions apply. Why do those who support Lekota want him; over Shilowa? Why do those who support Shilowa want him; over Lekota, or anybody else?
Furthermore, in either case, the ones running for leadership never say why they want to lead; or how they intend to lead. Yet, they are voted for anyway. Why?

To Whom It May Concern

I am a trained actor, who qualified for a Bachelor of Arts degree (Majors: English and Drama) and a Performers Diploma in Speech and Drama at the University of Cape Town. Since graduating, 15 years ago, I have worked as; an actor (Theatre, Television, and Film); a screenwriter; a television producer; a founder and creative director of a communications company; a creative consultant, and a dramaturge.

My interests outside of work include philosophy, photography, and leadership. I have always been fascinated by people who achieve greatness. I have always been intrigued by human behaviour; how humans relate to one another. Like most other animals on earth, we have humans who lead and those who follow. The followers greatly outnumber the leaders, but it is the leaders who possess the most power to influence collective change. It is this realisation that sparked my interest in leadership. I believe that through exploring the intricacies of leadership we can inspire more followers to become leaders, and more leaders to lead more effectively; for the benefit of the entire world.

This blog intends to inspire great leadership across the world; through particular emphasis on leadership in Africa.
